A haven of relaxation
Relaxing refuge
The botanical garden
Surrounding the Hotel Villa Schuler is a historic exotic garden of botanical interest covering over 1,500 square metres. Looking out to sea from the Terrazza delle Palme, with its oleanders, pomelos and jasmine, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the gulf and Mount Etna.
In the large terraced garden on the side facing the historic centre, you will find a treasure trove of botanical treasures, including over 350 species of native Mediterranean flora and rare tropical and subtropical plants, tended by expert and passionate gardeners.
Romantic paths, flowerbeds, shady pergolas, a herb garden, a pond with goldfish and water turtles, a nursery, and secluded corners where you can enjoy moments of complete relaxation.

Oasis of the senses
One of the things that makes Villa Schuler so special is its garden. Anyone leaving the bustling Corso Umberto, heading down the short flight of steps known as the "Scesa Morgana" and passing through the wrought-iron gate of Villa Schuler will find themselves pleasantly immersed in a dense tangle of exotic plants and Mediterranean scents – a true oasis of peace.
The lavish terraced park still retains its original layout, designed by Eugenio Schuler in 1902, and features bordered paths, pergolas and colonnades, as well as palm trees, citrus trees, cypresses, kentia palms, yuccas and exotic plants. Even back then, the park was dominated by a huge stone pine which, at 20 metres tall, is probably the oldest tree in Taormina today.
Along with the gardens of the two neighbouring villas, the gardens of Villa Schuler now form the largest green space in the historic centre of Taormina.
Over the years, a number of new species have been introduced. Mediterranean and Sicilian flora form the heart of the garden and are accompanied by tropical and subtropical plants, trees from all over the world, palms, banana trees, succulents and cacti. We are passionate about botany and have brought many plants home from our travels.
In our nursery, we cultivate, select and care for plants with great passion. Many of the plants in Villa Schuler’s educational garden are marked with a sign indicating their genus and species according to the binomial nomenclature system.
Since 2023, our historic botanical garden has been included in the prestigious network of the "Great Italian Gardens", a member of the "Great Gardens of the World".
