Events 2024 Taormina&Sicily

Dear friends of Hotel Villa Schuler,

If you have ever attended an event at our wonderful Teatro Antico you will never forget this! The Greeks, who created this marvellous place around the 3rd century BC, knew a lot about acoustics and they knew exactly where to place their venues to create the greatest impact in interaction with the surrounding nature. And the Romans, who remodelled the ancient theatre 500 years later, also had a good feel for the drama of a place.

Experiencing an event in this theatre with its great accustics and its views to the see and Mt. Etna is unique. But Taormina also has other very charming places and opportunities to experience a cultural evening. There is for example the small and refined Nazarena Theater, which hosts the much-loved performances of the Italian Opera, or the ancient roman Odeon, which is the setting for selected chamber concerts during the summer period, or the lovely baroque Church Santa Caterina, where the “Taormina Classics” concerts enrich the autumn in Taormina, and many other beautiful venues, so that you can enrich your stay in Taormina experiencing unforgettable cultural events.

This is why we are constantly looking for the best events that Taormina and near places in Sicily have to offer, which is still a little difficult at the beginning of the year. Many events of the season 2024 are not yet firmly planned or have yet to be confirmed. However, we will keep you up to date and will publish all interesting events on this page.

July and August (extended opening hours)
Castello di Taormina – above Madonna della Rocca, Taormina
During the months of July and August, the Arab-Norman Castle of Taormina, lately reopened to the public, will extend its visiting hours with an atmospheric evening opening. On Saturdays, the current hours that run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. will thus be extended until midnight. The Castle is a symbol of the beauty of Taormina with four panoramas and breathtaking views. The first fortified construction probably dates back to the Byzantine age, representing for a long time one of the defense outposts in the war against the Arabs. From August 908 to 969 Taormina was subjected to three Saracen invasions, the last one, from 964 to 969, ended with a capitulation, and the territory of the island was divided into five administrative units: Taormina, Palermo, Messina , Syracuse and Trapani. The Normans liberated Taormina and besieged the castle in 1079. In 1134 the town was subjected to the monastery of San Salvatore della Placa near Francavilla di Sicilia. During the rule of Frederick II of Swabia the fortress was entrusted to a noble castellan.
