CARMEN Opera by Georges Bizet. The opera, written in the genre of opera comique tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery Gypsy, Carmen. (this event to be confirmed)

CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA opera by Pietro Mascagni, directed by Enrico Castiglione. The sicilian opera par excellence. A wild story on love, jealousy, honour, revenge settled in a 19th century sicilian village. Performed by the "Coro Lirico Siciliano" and the "Orchestra Sinfonica del Festival Euro Mediterraneo".

TOSCA opera by Giacomo Puccini, directed by Enrico Castiglione. Performed by the "Coro Lirico Siciliano" and the "Orchestra Sinfonica del Festival Euro Mediterraneo". The eternal story on love and passion which ends tragically by the execution of Cararadossi and the spectacular suicide of Tosca leaping to her death from the walls of Castello Sant'Angelo. Teatro Antico - Taormina
ZAIRA opera by Vincenzo Bellini, directed by Enrico Castiglione. Performed by the "Coro Lirico Siciliano" and the "Orchestra Sinfonica del Festival Euro Mediterraneo". The story of this opera based on Voltaire's tragedy Zaïre takes place in the time of the Crusades, with the heroine, Zaira, struggling between her Christian faith and her love for Orosmane, the Muslim Sultan of Jerusalem.

LA SONNAMBULA (The Sleepwalker) is an opera in two acts, with music by the Sicilian composer Vincenzo Bellini. The title role of Amina (the sleepwalker) is renowned for its difficulty, requiring a complete command of trills and florid technique. The phrase "Ah! non credea mirarti / Sì presto estinto, o fior" (I did not believe you would fade so soon, oh flower) from Amina's final aria is inscribed on Bellini's tomb in the Catania Cathedral. LA BOHÈME opera by Giacomo Puccini. The libretto is based on Henri Murger's novel Scènes de al vie de bohème, a collection of vignettes portraying young bohemians living in the "Quartier Latin" of Paris in the 1840s. The story of Rodolfo and Mimi, two lovers living in a garret, ends tragically with Mimi dying on lung desease.

AUGUST 2015

LA TRAVIATA opera by Giuseppe Verdi based on La dame aux Camélias (1852), a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils. The opera about the love of the famed courtesan Violetta and the nobleman Alfredo ends tragically with Violetta dieing on tuberculosis.

August 9 and 13

MADAME BUTTERFLY opera by Giacomo Puccini, located in Japan of 1904. An American naval officer Pinkerton marries a Japanese called Butterfly, but betrays her from the beginning by his wish to take advantage of the lax Japanese divorce laws and marry a "real" American woman. Tragic end with the hara-kiri suicide of Madame Buttefly.

NORMA opera by Vincenzo Bellini. Sicily's most famous composer, Bellini, chose for his opera the fairy story about the secret love of the seer Norma with Pollione, the Roman proconsul, father of her two children. The tragic starts with Pollione falling in love with a young temple virgin...
