Dear friends of Villa Schuler,
A stay at Villa Schuler is made even more enjoyable by attending a cultural event in Taormina and the surrounding area.
Not to be missed and unforgettable: an evening at the Ancient Theatre of Taormina, which will certainly once again offer a wide variety of interesting performances in 2026, from classical music and opera to ballet, pop and rock concerts and theatre performances. The season at the Ancient Theatre usually starts in mid-June with the Taormina Film Fest, continues with the renowned international literature festival Taobuk and runs until at least September.
But Taormina also offers a congress centre with indoor events and other smaller venues such as the beautiful Nazarena Theatre, which under the title Italian Opera Taormina hosts small and exquisite concert opera evenings.

International Jazz Day 2026

Size 46 Street Band. Parade alongside the Corso Umberto! The marchin’ band a successful mix of New Orleans and South-of-Italy musical styles. Good vibes guaranteed!
21:30 Palazzo dei Congrassi – Taormina
Gilda Buttà in concert. The Sicilian-born pianist of many film compositions by Ennio Morricone, performs the wonderful « Cologne Concert » by Keith Jarret. After her studies of piano at « Giuseppe Verdi » Conservatory in Milan, from which she graduated at the age of 16 years with the maximum votes and praise, she won the Franz Liszt Prize in 1976, and started her concert pianist career. She has recorded several film soundtracks, among others those written by Academy Award-winning composer Ennio Morricone for Giuseppe Tornatore’s film The Legend of 1900.

Taormina International Music Festival – Maurizio Di Fulvio Trio, guitar and two singers. The guitar player Murizio Di Fulvio performs works from the classical guitar repertoire, his own compositions, transcriptions, arrangements, and improvisations drawing on jazz and Latin American influences. He has received considerable attention from leading contemporary composers, including S. Bussotti, L. Berio and S. Sciarrino, who have entrusted him with the revision, adaptation and performance of their works. This evening his Trio will perform works by Francesco Paolo Tosti, Edoardo Di Capua and Consuelo Velazquez.

Taobuk 2026, the theme is Trust, will focus on the concept of trust, exploring the value of words and dialogue, with over 200 international guests and the traditional gala at the Ancient Theatre on 20 June, also celebrating the 90th anniversary of Luigi Pirandello’s death and addressing issues such as freedom and democracy.

Lo Schiaccianoci 3.0 – The Nutcracker, performed by the Ballet of Sicily, Amilcar Moret Gonzales in the role of the prince and as the opera’s choreographer and director, alongside Virginia Tomarchio, a leading exponent of Sicilian talent on the international stage. 1892 two-act classical ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, set on Christmas Eve at the foot of a Christmas tree in a child’s imagination featuring a Nutcracker doll. The plot is an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s 1844 short story The Tale of a Nutcracker, itself a retelling of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s 1816 short story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Since the late 1960s, The Nutcracker has been danced by a lot of ballet companies, especially in North America. A re-staging of the September 2025 performance at the Teatro Antico.

Angelina Mango on her tour „Nina canta nei teatri d’estate”. The young Italian singer-songwriter is actually very popular in Italy. Her singles « Ci pensiamo domani » and « Che t’o dico a fa' » peaked within the top ten on the Italian singles chart in 2023, and her second extended play Voglia di vivere reached number two on the Italian Albums Chart. Mango won the Sanremo Music Festival 2024 with her song « La noia », and represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, where she placed 7th. La Bella Addormentata – The Sleeping Beauty, performed by the Ballet of Sicily, guest stars: Amilcar Moret Gonzales and Carlotta Canzano. The Sleeping Beauty a ballet in a prologue and three acts to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, completed in 1889. It is the second of his three ballets and, at 160 minutes, his second-longest work in any genre. The original scenario was by Ivan Vsevolozhsky after Perrault’s La belle au bois dormant, or The Beauty Sleeping in the Forest; The premiere took place at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on January 15, 1890, and from that year forward The Sleeping Beauty has remained one of the most famous ballets of all time.
