Dear Clients, dear Friends of Hotel Villa Schuler!

2008 is over and we are now closed for our traditional winter refurbishings.
We will reopen on March 7, 2009.

First of all we would like to thank you all - our guests, our friends and our newsletter subscribers. We appreciate very much your kind interest in Hotel Villa Schuler and in Taormina. Thank you for having visited our web site, for having stayed here and for having visited our beautiful little town Taormina. Thank you for your interest and your fidelity. We all enjoyed very much having you here and sharing our little paradise with you.

We had indeed a wonderful season 2008 with wonderful guests! It was a great pleasure.
We love to try to always make your stay a pleasant one and we will be happy to do so again in 2009, during the new season: March 7 to November 22, 2009.

Fortunately the 2008 season went well at Villa Schuler and we cross our fingers that the momentary financial uncertainties will not discourage voyagers to enjoy the attractions of our historic and sunny island in 2009. And we hope that the new US administration & its world partners will do what it takes to create all those encouraging impulses needed by the world economy and stability.

WHAT?S NEW AT THE VILLA SCHULER ?

The best news first: on November 17, 2008 our hotel has been awarded with the DIN standard ISO 14001 certification. This is for the hotel?s environmentally sustainable management and policies. After years of continuous eco-innovations and after going through all ISO management tecniques and procedures for the past two years, we finally submitted our hotel last year. We were checked and certified by TÜV Italy, which is the Italian branch of the German Technical Monitoring Association ?Technischer Überwachungs-Verein?, a renowned and independent agency rigorously monitoring, inspecting and certificating products and companies on an international scale.

We choosed to submit our Hotel Villa Schuler to the ISO 14001 because it is the best-known, strictest, most reliable and internationally accepted certification for an Environmental Management System. It specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy, determining environmental aspects and impacts of products/activities/services, planning environmental objectives and measurable targets, the implementation and operation of programs to meet objectives and targets, checking and prescribing corrective actions and requiring their constant management review. It helps our hotel management to minimize how our operations negatively affect our environment and cause adverse changes to air, water, or land, to comply with applicable laws, regulations and other environmentally oriented requirements.
This means that our hotel is set on a course of continually improving on the above criteria and eco-standards.

ISO 14001 is similar to ISO 9000 quality management in that both pertain to the process and the comprehensive outcome of how a product is produced rather than to the product itself. The overall idea is to establish an organized approach to systematically reduce the impact of all environmental aspects which our hotel can possibly control.

The ISO 14001 is the highest level of a European certification concerning the environmental management of companies or corporations.

The Hotel Villa Schuler is the first and only hotel in Taormina & surroundings beeing certified with the ISO EN 14001, and we are obvoiusly proud of it.

This certification means to accept and keep with a set of strict rules concerning energy-saving measures, waste-saving and separation, building biology, the safety features for clients and staff etc. and to submit all processes to a constant supervision. This is also good for our environment, in and around Taormina.

All this means also good effects on you, on our valuable clients. You can be sure that we at the Hotel Villa Schuler are continuously doing everything in our power to protect your health, improving your security and therefore your overall well-beeing and well-feeling during your stay.

R E F U R B I S H I N G S 2 0 0 8 / 2 0 0 9

ROOFTOP LOUNGE & TERRACE
This winter we will complete the refurbishing of our latest addition: our brand new Rooftop Lounge and Terrace. In the next season on our 4th floor you will find not only a spacious, furnished rooftop sun terrace, from where you can overview the whole coastline of the Ionian sea from the Bay of Giardini-Naxos to the entire silhouette of Mount Etna. You will also find a cosy, tastefully furnished Panoramic Lounge, an ideal place to sojourn to and relax. We will now also be able to organize also private meetings or cocktails up there, if requested.
So we are promising a great, unforgettable experience: at dawn or at night, with unique and unequaled panoramic 360 degree views, reaching from Mt. Etna and the valleys below us (south-west) to the sparkling lights in the the Bay of Naxos below us (south-east), along the Bay to Cape Taormina in the east and up to the Botanic Gardens and onwards to the the antique Greek Theatre gently nestled in front of you (north-east), then to medieval buildings of Taormina?s historic center (north) and further up to the old saracen castle overlooking Taormina (north west) and then admiring again, closing the 360 degree circle, THE mountain: Mt.Etna.

INTERNET POINT FOR FREE
In our basement below our lobby we have just opened our new Internet Point allowing a free and fast ADSL internet connection. The new working station allows our clients also to print internet pages and all kinds of documents. Our internet point for free is an addition to our Wi-Fi services covering the whole building and which include also the use of our laptops for a nominal fee.

THE GARDENER?S HOUSE
In our more than 100 year old subtropical garden we already finished the refurbushing of the small ?Gardener?s House? formerly used for the storage of our gardening tools. It became a charming little garden building which will not only continue to serve as a storage place for our gardening tools, but will also host a small gardener?s-studio, where he will keep his books and his collection of seeds. Pippo (short for Giuseppe, Joseph) speaks good english and he is looking forward to introducing you to the incredible fascinations of mediterranean botany.
We extended the roof of the small cottage creating a wonderful tile covered open space also for our guests, a cosy and shady place to have a rest, maybe a drink, to read a book and to enjoy the scent and the atmosphere of our peaceful garden while protected from the sun. We also restored the old cistern located below the ?Gardener?s House? and added a simple but efficient filtering system in order to collect rainwater from its roof, a traditiuonal local method to save water. So we will use that winter rainwater for irrigating the garden during drier periods.

OTHER IMPROVEMENTS
Many other works are done during this winter, works that concern some functional and technological parts of our Hotel. Improvements also in parts of the building not visible to the visitor and guest, as the laundry, the mantenace workshop and the staff changing-rooms & facilities. Everything according to the latest fire-regulations and improving safety and working conditions of our staff.

For all these works we are happy to have again the most reliable masons we know, coming every morning punctually at 7 a.m. from their home town Maletto, located at the northern slopes of Mt. Etna. They are a group of enthusiastic masons who know everything about the art of traditional architecture and about environmentally sustainable building.

Our local carpenters are working at the moment on an accurate restoration of some precious peaces of our antique furniture: the 18th century imperial style mahogany & cherry armoire with vitrine of our breakfast room; the 18th century french chestnut cupboard of the adjoining ground floor passageway leading to our palm terrace.
Some other traditional armoires of 5 guest rooms are also undergoing an accurate restoration and will be ready before the reopening of March 7, 2009.

ADORNMENTS
Our gardener Pippo, who also is a skilful painter of still lifes of plants and garden landscapes and who already did some of our guest room?s paintings in previous years, at the moment is painting some more canvases, destined to 6 existing guest rooms. At the moment we are closed for refurbishings, so our lobby has become his atelier and we all enjoy working at our desks in such an inspiring atmosphere.

We are looking forward to March 7, 2009 and the reopening of Hotel Villa Schuler.
Then we will be ready to welcome you again in our freshly refurbished old fashion Villa.

LAST NOT LEAST:
economic uncertainties require more caution and much greater flexibility, so we kept our rates 2009 stable.

In some periods as March and November 2009 we additionally introduced a unique special offer:
