Biblioteca comunale - Taormina
Photo exhibition on Pope John Paul II 22 photos most of them taken by the Studio Felici, Rome, the agency that since 1846 takes care of the pictures of the Popes.The exhibition is an "emotional show" of one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century, an extraordinary protagonist of the life and the history of the Roman Church who, also, significantly improved the Catholic Church?s relations with Judaism, Islam, the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Anglican Communion. John Paul II will be canonised on 27 April 2014, alongside Pope John XXIII. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10.00 to 13.00 h and 15.30 to 20.30 h.

Santa Lucia di Maggio 2014 religious feast in honour of the patron Saint of Siracuse Santa Lucia (beginning already on May 3 with mass and rites) On Sunday 4 at 12.00 h the Saints statue will be transferred from the cathedral to the Church Santa Lucia alla Badia where it will stay until Sunday 11. The procession is special because of the traditional "lancio delle colombe", a start of lots of messenger pigeons. Sunday 11, the statue will be brought back to the Cathedral with a procession at 19.00 h.

60th EDITION OF TAORMINA FILMFEST

60th edition of the Taormina Filmfest

An integral part of Taormina Arte, the town's well-established summerlong culture fest, the Taormina Film Festival is an annual celebration of the best in the film world and offers a week packed with exclusive premieres, Hollywood glamour and VIP luxury.
Claudia Cardinale will be present at the Taormina Film Fest! The unforgettable actress in movies such as "Rocco and his brothers", "The Leopard", and Fellini's "8 ½" is the first celebrity announced by Film Fest director Mario Sesti and general manager Tiziana Rocca. There will be also a restropective of her films.

Day screenings take place in the congress centre while main evening screenings take place at Taormina's beautiful two-thousand-year-old Greek theater (with an immense ocean backdrop). The festival also includes a prestigious awards ceremony, where stars of cinema accept awards for iconic performances and outstanding achievements in film (former winners included Robert de Niro and Colin Firth). This is the perfect event through which to enjoy Taormina with cutting edge art and culture in a breathtaking setting, chock-full of VIP glitz and elegance.

I Suoni del Silenzio. Co-Esistente (The sounds of silence. Co-existent). A multi-media performance by the pianist, composer and author Vito Terribile together with his partner artists. A performance with musics, sand art, sculptures and prosa. Vito Terribile is a dreamer of a better world, his work has a strong romantic impact. He works together with the sand artist Ilana Yahav from Isreal, who realizes live paintings with sand, transmitted to a big screen, and with the french artist Serge Uberti, who fascinates with suggestive, dreamlike sclptures. The musical part is done by members of the Palermo Classica Chamber Orchestra with Michele Ascolese (guitar), the female band Green Clouds, Luca Leonori (percussions) and the soprano Sonia Sciamanna. Each part of the opus will be introduced by Corrado Tedeschi.

The Nastri d'Argento (Silver Ribbon) are movie awards assigned since 1946 for cinematic performances and production by the Sindacato Nazionale dei Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani, the association of Italian film critics. The Nastro d'Argento is the oldest movie award in Europe, and after the Academy Awards the second oldest in the world. The awards are given during a gala night held at the Taormina Greek Theatre.

La Sonnambula (The Sleepwalker) is an opera in two acts, with music by the Sicilian composer Vincenzo Bellini. The title role of Amina (the sleepwalker) is renowned for its difficulty, requiring a complete command of trills and florid technique. The phrase "Ah! non credea mirarti / Sì presto estinto, o fior" (I did not believe you would fade so soon, oh flower) from Amina's final aria is inscribed on Bellini's tomb in the Catania Cathedral.
