L'opera dei pupi. Puppet theatre of the Gargano Family. The tradition of sicilian puppet theatre has been honoured as UNESCO world heritage. It is an old tradition, that has been handed over the centuries by few families. One of the last are the Garganos from Messina. They will perform regularly in Taormina.

Edipo Re. Oedipus the King by Sophocles, first performed 429 BC. Directed by Daniele Salvo. The tragedy chronicles the story of Oedipus, who becomes the king of Thebes and who was destined from birth to murder his father Laius and marry his mother Jocasta. The play is an example of a classic tragedy.

Antigone tragedy by Sophocles, written 441 BC, directed by Cristina Pezzoli. Antigone is the tragic heroine of the play, she rebels against a decret of king Creon and thus against the fundamental rules of her society that states that women must be afraid of the men. Sophocles proves his heroine to be noble and wise.

She has decided that the women must convince the men to give them control of Athens, because they could rule it better than they have been. The women then instiute a Socialist-like government.

Teatro Antico and Palazzo Congressi - Taormina
59th edition of the Taormina Film Fest directed by Mario Sosti. The Taormina Film Fest will be opened by the preview of the film Man of Steel by Zach Snyder, which will come to the Italian cinemas on June 20. The film will be presented together with the director Zack Snyder, the actors Amy Adams and Henry Cavill.
Other movie stars that will attend the festival are Meg Ryan who will lead a Tao Class at Taormina Film Fest and will obtain the Taormina Arte Awardy, and the famous Russian actress and director Renata Litvinova. As last year the Festival provides a section Focus on Russian cinema. The Humanitarian Taormina Award this year will be given to Prince Albert of Monaco on June 16.
